Look, if you would have asked me how I thought my trip to KC was going to go.. I would not have been able to tell you. This has been a week of spontaneity. I had one set plan, that was the wedding I came in town for.
Day one: a friend asked if I wanted to go to the Royals home opener, so I was like hell yeah. Went to lunch with a group then headed out to Kauffman. I love going to Royals games. Tailgating in the Midwest hits different. We pulled up and I instantly ran into an old friend. Honestly, this city is smaller than it seems. So we drink a few seltzers before we go into the stadium. We got killer seats, I forget how much I love baseball until I go to a game. Unfortunately it was cold, not even alcohol warmth could save us. We did win though, we also bounced early and went onto the next adventure which was my old stomping grounds (and old job) Brew Top. The beloved bar of the northland. Drunk Jadium should NEVER go there, but I did and I survived.
Day Two: I felt slightly anti social on Friday. After a very social day of seeing a bunch of friends I’m sort of over being around humans. However, my sweet sweet friend just so happened to fly into town for the weekend so we met up for lunch and did some shopping for her “going out” outfit! That was a great day. Then I got to chill and watch scary movies with my brother and his roomie/our friend.
Day Three: WEDDING DAY! I started day 3 by going to see my oldest and best friends, Jacobe and Angela and watch their son Chase play a baseball game. It was the best, he’s so cute. He always pranks me by saying “who even are you?” Every time I visit, like I haven’t known him since birth. Such a goof. Then we grabbed lunch and it was about time to start getting ready for the wedding. So I realized I didn’t bring any jewelry or hair stuff. Luckily my friend Naomi came in clutch and gave me a make over! She’s the best. So she got me all dolled up and ready to go. Then, the beautiful wedding. Becca was a ray of sunshine, she looked incredible. It was a good time, and they had bbq at the wedding. Kansas City bbq is on a different level. Not only that but I got to reconnect with my old BWW besties from 10 years ago, it was like no time had passed. Now I have a wedding koozie to remember the night forever.
Day Four: I won’t lie, things got a little wild on this day. Went to a girls brunch. Man I missed unlimited mimosas! They don’t do things like that (not affordable atleast) in the PNW. There was a brunch buffet, which was great. But it was amazing catching up with my old friends. Britt and Naomi were both best friends of mine when I lived in KC and played a huge role in my life. It was so much fun, we had SEVEN bottles of champagne. We made memories that will always last, I wish I could post the picture of Naomi after doing brunch with me. So funny, I’ll never delete it. Brunch went from 10-4 pm! Then I went to dinner at my cousins and got to see the fam bam which was wonderful.
Day five & six: honestly, after day four was sort of ready to go home because I miss my pup, but I got to see a couple more friends and grab dinner so it was well worth staying. I got to finish my trip off with a taco Tuesday at my cousins house. Great ending to a wonderful trip.
Some key notes from my trip that I have to share though:
Everytime I come in town there is a new gas station or apartments, absolutely insane
The food, like I always miss 54th street, Brew Top, Longboards, and Tokyo Japanese steak house. They are my favorites. I sadly didn’t get to go to County Road ice house in the P&L district but that’s another favorite
I always miss the smiling faces and Midwest kindness. It really is special
I FaceTimed Sadie about 5 times this weekend but she gets to go on my next trips so I’m so excited! One trip town, another trip coming up! Get ready for a rollercoaster of travel posts coming your way!
